DimDim.com: When GotoMeeting & WebEx.com are just too expensive...

It seems like almost once a quarter I participate in an online meeting where I'm forced to login to a service like GoToMeeting or WebEx.com, so I can see someone else's desktop, slide show presentation, or to simply conference call with a colleague. However, as with almost any business service, there is a cost. Some of them charge by conference call, some by the month, and others by the number of participants--it just depends on the circumstances and what you are looking for.

Yes these services are great, and yes they are needed. However, why pay when you don't have to. That's where Dimdim.com comes in. Dimdim is an Open source collaborative effort, which means the programming and up-keep of the website is done by a community, instead of a private company trying to make a profit. Partake in almost all of the same features that you would find with any other professional online meeting service, but get it for FREE.

Some of the main features:
Video Chat
Desktop Sharing
Public & Private Chat Interfaces
Share & Present Documents (Powerpoints & PDF's)
Scalable (1-1,000 participants)
Schedule Meetings
Outlook Integration
and much more...

Hi Brandon,

I stumbled across your blog today and was wondering if you would be interested in reviewing Mikogo - the free online meeting tool. http://www.mikogo.com
Mikogo is a free online desktop sharing tool with great features for web conferences. Users can host screen sharing sessions in real time and invite up to 10 participants to any meeting. Some of the great features include:
switch presenter - let a participant share their screen
remote keyboard and mouse control - great for remote tech support
application sharing - choose the apps that you wish to share, or share your entire desktop.
Skype Extra - free calls and screen sharing together.

Please feel free to contact me if you would like any further information.

I hope to hear from you.

Regards,

Andrew

That sounds pretty cool. I currently give multiple online presentation each week to anywhere between 5 and 25 clients. My company currently uses Microsoft Live Meeting 2005. It has plenty downfalls. Just now are they upgrading to Live Meeting 2008. You'd think that live meeting style software would be constantly updated, especially over the past few years. Why is it that Microsoft is just now updating this software? Maybe I'll talk to the guys in charge about DimDim. being Open Source I doubt they'll go for it, but I can still use it for my own video conferencing ;)

GoMeetNow is a cheaper alternative even to DimDim. It costs just $12.95 per month while providing more features. Just check here http://www.gomeetnow.com/
